Glen Burnie, MD (Arundel.News & AAFA) - An update to the shooting reported by Anne Arundel First Alert Saturday morning. Residents were awoken to the sounds of gunfire during two separate incidents just blocks apart in the Heritage Hills area of Ferndale on 4/17. A man is recovering from his injuries after being shot during the first incident, as he walked on Polk Drive near Heritage Hill Drive. Anne Arundel County Police confirmed to Arundel.News that the victim was shot in the torso by an unknown suspect around 12:17 A.M. Responding officers also found several other shots had struck nearby homes that were occupied at the time. No injuries were reported by the residents of those homes. Lt. Gardiner, a Public Information Officer for Anne Arundel County Police tells Arundel.News that it is unknown at this time whether the victim was the intended target of those shots. The official police press release notes that the victim is expected to recover from a non life threatening injury.
While police were investigating the shooting in the 200 block of Polk Drive, shots rang out again a few streets away at 1:48 A.M. As patrol units searched the area for the shooter they found a nearby home with damage to its sliding glass door. In the meantime, a 911 call came in for a shooting in the 6400 block of Freedom Drive. Officers rushed to the scene where they were able to recover video surveillance that showed a suspect. Patrol began canvassing the area in search of the suspect, when a third call came in for destruction to a vehicle a few streets over. Officers were able to locate the 16 year old suspect from the surveillance video near that location. According to police, he was allegedly in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun. Tremar Copes lives close to where the incidents occurred according to the release of information from Anne Arundel County Police. He is being charged as adult for the destruction of property and gun possession. The shooter involved in the first incident is still unknown. Ballistics testing will determine if the incidents are related. It is important to note that these incidents are still under investigation, and while they did happen in close proximity, police are still putting all the pieces together. Shooting – 200 Block Polk Drive Glen Burnie
"On April 17, 2021 at approximately 0017 hours, officers responded to the 200 block of Polk Drive and Heritage Hill Drive, Glen Burnie for a shooting just occurred. Officers located one male victim suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The male victim was treated on scene by officers and transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center for further medical treatment. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect fired multiple shots striking the male victim and striking two nearby occupied homes. The victim was struck one time in the upper torso. The two homes were occupied at the time the spent rounds entered the interior living spaces. The families were not injured. Officers maintained a presence as detectives and evidence collection processed the scene to gather further information. This investigation is continuing. Shooting – 6400 Block Freedom Drive Glen Burnie
On April 17, 2021 at approximately 0148 hours, while investigating the Polk Drive shooting officers heard multiple shots fired nearby. Officers canvassed the area and located a residence with damage to the rear sliding door as the emergency call was dispatched for the 6400 Block Freedom Drive for a shooting just occurred. Investigation revealed residential security surveillance which was reviewed and a suspect description was developed. While searching, a call for a destruction to auto on a nearby court was dispatched with a suspect description matching the surveillance footage. Officers confronted the suspect who was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun. The occupants of the residence were not injured.
