Edgewater Man Allegedly Murdered Mother 

Edgewater, MD (Arundel.News & AAFA)- Police say a man is in custody for allegedly murdering his own mother. Detectives believe that other members of the community may have more information on this case of a senior who died following an attack inside her Edgewater home. Horrific details of that incident include apparent signs of a struggle as the victim was assaulted are emerging. According to a late night press release from Anne Arundel County Police, 55 year old Aiman Ghazi Zaharna is at the Jennifer Road Detention Center, charged with the homicide of his mother, 85 year old Zakia Et Al Zaharna. Both reportedly resided at the 1900 block of Woodsboro Place in Edgewater. 
 
Anne Arundel County Police say they were called to the family's home around 5:30 AM on 10/26 for a reported disturbance.  A 911 caller reported that the 85 year old woman was suffering from trauma to her torso and back from what appeared to be an assault. Despite emergency medical assistance, Et Al Zaharna succumbed to her injuries. At this time, authorities say this appears to be a targeted incident, with no additional threat to the community. 
 
Initial reports from police indicated that the younger Zaharna fled the scene in the victim's vehicle, a gold Cadillac SRX. A BOLO was issued by police for that vehicle, shortly after responding to Et Al Zaharna's home. 
 
Investigators believe that others may have information on this case. Anyone with information is asked to call Anne Arundel County Police. Arundel.News has a request in to The Jennifer Road Detention Center Records Division to release Mr. Zaharna's mugshot. As of the time of this report, we haven't received a response to our inquiries.

"On October 26, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m. officers responded for an unknown disturbance at a residence in the 1900 block of Woodsboro Place in Edgewater. When officers arrived they located an 85-year-old female victim suffering from apparent trauma. The victim was transported to an area hospital, however was pronounced deceased upon arrival. Identification of the victim is pending notification to next-of-kin.
 
The Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit is investigating. Evidence recovered from the scene indicates this incident was targeted towards the victim and there is no known ongoing threat to the community. Detectives are searching for Aiman Ghazi Zaharna, a 55-year-old male, who is believed to have first-hand information on this case. Zaharna is believed to be operating a gold Cadillac SRX with Maryland registration 73223CJ. Anyone coming in contact with Zaharna or the vehicle is asked to call 911.

UPDATE: 
The victim in this case has been identified as 85-year-old Zakia Et Al Zaharna of Edgewater, Maryland. Through investigation, detectives were able to locate 55-year-old Aiman Zaharna, of the same address and the missing Cadillac. Evidence gathered from the scene and interviews lead detectives to seek charges against Mr. Aiman Zaharna charging him with the murder of Ms. Zaharna, his mother.
